DESMI SPEED-SWEEP OIL RECOVERY SYSTEM

40% LESS RECOVERY TIME. UP TO 36% LOWER RESOURCE COSTS.

High-speed oil recovery that changes the economics of spill response. Reports demonstrate the same volume recovered in 3 rather than 5 days, with up to 36% lower resource costs. Expected 10-year system design life.

The cost of standing still

The most expensive oil-spill system may be the one you already own.

Traditional recovery isn’t expensive only because of the equipment. It’s expensive because vessels cost money. Crews cost money. Fuel costs money. And every additional hour oil remains on the water increases the response burden.

Speed-Sweep attacks those costs at their source.

Illustrative operational comparison, not to scale. Actual configuration and operating sequence depend on the system and conditions.

Side-by-side comparison: Speed-Sweep uses one vessel with the slick contained inside the sweep and skimmed while advancing; conventional operation uses two vessels and skims separately. The Speed-Sweep boom attaches at the vessel’s front starboard side.

SINGLE-VESSEL OPERATION

Towing vesselFront starboard attachment
Skims while advancing

The boom attaches to the vessel’s front starboard side, not astern, helping protect the vessel from oil exposure. Oil is gathered inside the sweep and concentrated at the apex. Ro-Kite pulls the open end outward, while the integrated in-line dynamic skimmer recovers oil as the vessel advances.

Traditional operation

TWO-VESSEL COMPARISON

Towing vesselsTwo captains must coordinate
Stop · skim · resume

Two-vessel operations need experienced captains working in close coordination. Poor spacing can bring vessels together or make the opening too wide, risking collision or equipment damage. Single-vessel operations are simpler and safer. In the conventional sequence, vessels stop for stationary skimming, then resume sweeping.

Lower operational risk and liability

Fewer people on the vessels and a significantly shorter response time reduce operational risk and liability.

Keep ports and shipping lanes moving

Faster operations mean shipping lanes and ports are affected for less time. Shutting a port or shipping lane for 5 days is extremely costly: revenue is lost and disruption is caused.

Significant maintenance and service savings

Less boom is required. The integrated in-line dynamic skimmer and multi-purpose power pack bring significant maintenance and service savings.

Actual resources, configuration and outcomes vary by incident and operating conditions.

Hope is not a response. Capability is.

When a spill occurs, your response capability determines the outcome. The right equipment in the right hands can mean the difference between a controlled incident and a costly environmental disaster.

How it works

One vessel. A wider sweep.

The boom connects at the vessel’s front starboard side. Its permeable screens and integrated in-line dynamic skimmer deploy with it. At the open end, Ro-Kite pulls outward to widen the sweep. The single vessel advances while the skimmer recovers oil.
